Did you know that Lunar Client contains Sodium, Optifine, Forge, and even Fabric? With version modules on Lunar Client, you’re able to launch Lunar Client combined with various different add-ons. Currently, only the Lunar, Fabric, Optifine, and Forge modules are available on Lunar Client. However, more may be added in the future so be on the lookout! In this article, we will take a look at and compare the four different Lunar Client modules. Keep in mind that some of these modules are still in the beta phase, so you may encounter issues, which you should report to our support team by creating a ticket.

Lunar Client Modules
Lunar, Forge, Optifine & Fabric respectively

Lunar Module

The Lunar module is the most simple of all of the other modules: Bare-bones Lunar Client without any extra mods. This module contains Lunar Client combined with vanilla Minecraft to provide the most vanilla experience possible. Although the vanilla module is available on all Minecraft versions, we recommend against using it so that you can get the most out of Lunar Client and all the add-ons that are offered alongside it.

Launching Lunar Module

To play on the Lunar module, simply open the version selector by clicking on the down arrow next to the launch button. Now, select the version you’d like to play on and then press on the grass block icon at the bottom right.

Forge Module

Lunar Client’s Forge module integrates certain aspects of the Forge mod loader into Lunar Client so that certain third-party mods can be implemented seamlessly into Lunar Client. At the moment, the NEU (Not Enough Updates), the Skyblock Addons, and the Replay Mod mods are available on the Forge module. The NEU and Skyblock Addons mods contain many quality-of-life improvements and features that are used for Hypixel Skyblock. The Replay Mod is a popular Minecraft mod that allows players to record and replay their game all from within the confines of Minecraft.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for users to add their own Minecraft Forge mods to Lunar Client’s Forge module at this time. If you wish to see a certain mod on the Forge module, be sure to suggest it to us by creating a support ticket. On Lunar Client, the Forge module is bundled with Optifine so that you’ll still experience an FPS boost in Minecraft on top of being able to play with additional mods.

The Forge module can be enabled through the version selector inside Lunar Client Launcher (press the down arrow next to the launch button). Once you’ve opened the version selector, choose Minecraft version 1.8.9 or 1.12.2 and then click on the Forge icon. Currently, the Forge module is only available on Minecraft versions 1.8.9 and 1.12.2.

Launching Forge Module

On Lunar Client, you can override our versions of third party mods with your own versions of them. You can do this by navigating to ~/.lunarclient/offline/multiver/ on your computer and replace the .jar file of the mod with your own version of the mod. Keep in mind that the file name must match the following format: <Mod Name>_<Version>.jar Further information regarding mod overrides can be found here.

Optifine Module

Optifine is a Minecraft rendering engine that optimizes in-game performance as well as provides advanced visual customization of the game. It was originally created by sp614x and works with all versions of Minecraft. Besides the FPS boost, one of the main features of Optifine is the ability to use shaders in Minecraft. Additionally, Optifine also adds customization for texture packs that don’t exist in vanilla Minecraft. For example, Optifine allows Minecraft players to add custom skies, connected textures, and much more to beautify the in-game experience.

Optifine Setings

On Lunar Client, the Optifine module is available on all Minecraft versions. To activate the Optifine module, open the Lunar Client Launcher and then open the version selector, which can be found by pressing the down arrow next to the launch button. Once you’ve opened the version selector, click on the version that you wish to play on and then press on the Optifine icon (it can be found at the bottom right of the window). Now, all you need to do is press the Launch Game button and you will be playing with Optifine!

Fabric Module

Much like the Forge module, the Fabric module contains parts of the Fabric mod loader alongside a selection of Fabric mods. These mods include Sodium, Noxesium, Replay Mod, Iris, Phosphor, and Indium. Confused? Let’s take a look at what each of these mods does.

Created by the CaffeineMC development team, Sodium, like Optifine, is also a Minecraft rendering engine and optimization mod, however, it doesn’t have nearly as many options as Optifine. The Sodium mod is bundled with Iris, Indium, and Phosphor. Respectively, these mods provide compatibility for shaders with Sodium, integrate the Fabric rendering API, and optimize Minecraft’s lighting engine.

Replay Mod is a popular Minecraft mod that allows players to record and replay their game all from within the confines of Minecraft; the Noxesium mod targets MCCIsland, a Lunar Client partnered server, by adding various features and bugfixes that complement the server.

Unfortunately, Sodium is only available on Minecraft versions 1.16 and later. You can enable the Sodium module by opening the version selector inside the Lunar Client Launcher and then selecting the Sodium icon above the Launch Game button. The version selector can be found by pressing the down arrow next to the launch button.
